Hardingasete is a unique seminar and conference centre where the old meets the new. In a close embrace between old, authentic surroundings and state of the art facilities, you find Hardingasete. Here, we have attempted to recreate the environment in Western Norway as it used to be. A number of old houses have been moved to the spot, fitted with both antique furniture and the comforts of modern bathrooms and kitchens. The yard lies tucked away on historic grounds on the Ljones peninsula by the Hardanger fjord. Facing the west, it lies overlooking the beautiful fjord.
You can rent Hardingasete for seminars and conferences, management events and teambuilding. This is also the ideal spot for ceremonies like weddings. We are certified to serve food and alcoholic beverages. See map of ths site
Hardingasete is created from 20 houses from the western region of Norway, dating from the period from 1600-1870. The houses are restored to authenticity using old building techniques, and they are all fitted with bathrooms. The houses range from 2 to 35 beds in size, so each groups can organise their guests as they please.
Localized in a brand new building, the conference rooms and meeting rooms are of high standard. The same rooms can also be used as assembly rooms. The dining hall and the kitchen are localized in a large barn from 1860, which gives them a unique atmosphere. There is also a bar there, selling alcoholic beverages.
By the pier, we have a refurbished boat house where it is possible to set a long table in the basement, and it is also possible to arrange meetings or even sleeping here. We can arrange a barbecue on the pier in the summer, in maritime and absolutely stunning surroundings.
In the old days, most yards used to have a wash house where the farmers also had fireplaces and did their brewing, and we have continued this tradition at Hardingasete. You can read more about this on the Activities tab, where you also find more information about the chip heated wood tubs and the sauna.
«Thank you for the stay. All the participants were very happy upon their return!»

A few words from the owner: Jarle Hjartåker
The story about Hardingasete started in the autumn of 1996, when we started to prepare the site and build roads. The plan was to create a different meeting place for work and celebrations. Hardingasete is now a peaceful spot in the beautiful nature of Western Norway where people can focus on human relations and work related subjects. Over the years, I have seen so many old buildings disappear. No one found them useful, and they were demolished or left to fall apart.
I imagined that these houses could contribute to a nice environment that people also could find useful, and I started collecting them before I even had a site to put them. In 1996, the construction started, and now, 16 years later, Hardingasete has been in operation for almost 14 years.
Our vision is that the surroundings may play an important role in finding solutions. Here, there are no disturbances, and no bustling city to distract the participants after the meeting or conference. Hardanger still has a lot to offer, and Hardingasete is a place with a large number of potential activities. Our vision is to offer a calm environment where guests can get some breathing room. The food and beverages are made from quality products with a lot of care, and you can enjoy your meals in beautifiul surroundings overlooking the fjord and the Folgefonna glacier.
Personally, I have had Hardingasete as a means of relaxation in a busy everyday life. Disassembling and rebuilding the houses and collecting antique furnishings has ben an exciting and fun project. I have found beauty in new things, like the numerous slate roofs that are so common in many of the surrounding villages. I did not notice them until I understood the art of roofing. The small things sometimes make a huge difference.
Maybe you can find these small things at Hardingasete?
